Help Us Shape the Future of Girl Scouts in Southeastern Michigan!

GSSEM has started planning new Community Hubs to better help kids and families in southeast Michigan by providing more learning and activity opportunities in their communities.

To make this happen,  we need your input to help build a stronger, more inclusive community for girls across our region.

Meet GSSEM

GSSEM Girl Scouts discover their passions, connect with their communities, and take action to make the world a better place.

With the help of dedicated volunteers and community partners, we're able to provide our girls with a vast array of programming, exciting adventure opportunities, hands-on experiences, and much more. Every day, our Girl Scouts gain confidence, overcome barriers, try new things, develop vital social skills, learn to embrace risks, take on challenges, and embark on adventures—all of which prepare them for success as the leaders of tomorrow.

About the L.E.A.D. Institute Community Hubs

In 2023, GSSEM received historic funding from the state of Michigan to pursue the creation a Detroit-based L.E.A.D. Institute - an education and experience destination. Realizing the need for such a place goes beyond just one location, GSSEM is developing plans for Community Hubs throughout our region.

The Girl Scout Community Hubs will serve as a community partner and resource, filling the gaps in educational and recreational opportunities for southeast Michigan’s young people.

How You Can Help

We are currently completing a Needs Assessment to ensure that youth in Southeastern Michigan have the resources, programs, and opportunities they need to thrive. This needs assessment will help guide our future initiatives and strengthen the Girl Scout community.

We want to hear from community members, parents, educators, and local leaders across the seven-county area. Your input will help us understand the unique needs of our community, identify areas for growth, and ensure the Community Hubs are accessible and relevant to all youth in our region.

Who We Are

Girl Scouts of Southeastern Michigan (GSSEM) is the local council chartered by Girl Scouts of the USA to facilitate Girl Scouting in southeastern Michigan. GSSEM provides girls with individual and group programming and experiences with the support of parents, volunteers, and corporate and community partnerships.

What Girl Scouts Do

Experiences are based on Girl Scouts' four program pillars.

STEAM

Outdoor Education

Life Skills

Entrepreneurship

"Whether visiting an animal shelter, camping, hosting a dance-off, or filming a movie—they’re learning to take risks, trust their gut, and team up with others for good. The secret element holding it all together? Joy."

"Forever friendship is a powerful thing. It's what gives Girl Scouts the confidence to unapologetically be themselves. It's what makes them feel safe enough to try new things and cheer each other on. It can help get them up on tough days, raise their hand in class, and even climb to the top of a mountain."

Our Successes

Here are just a few ways GSSEM is making an impact!
