Prince William County Maritime Study
Prince William County Government
Fourth Economy is working with Prince William County, VA, to assess maritime and waterfront-related opportunities for economic growth. Prince William is 20 miles south of Washington D.C., and is Virginia’s second largest county. The county has 20+ miles of waterfront along the Potomac River that includes marinas, docks, and residences, but has historically struggled to garner economic activity along this land due to a myriad of factors.
Our Approach
Fourth Economy is using a blend of insights from quantitative and qualitative methods - along with promising practices from other locales - to assess how Prince William can better connect existing assets and develop new ones to increase economic activity along its waterfront. Through stakeholder interviews, a survey, the review of comparable developments in other communities, asset inventorying and mapping, and a broad assessment of potential opportunities and uses, Fourth Economy will produce an actionable plan to guide the use of Prince William County’s blend of commercial, industrial, and tourism-oriented strategies to activate economic growth via its maritime assets.
