Jobs for the Future
Economic Resilience
Jobs for the Future (JFF) is a national nonprofit organization that drives the transformation of U.S. education and workforce systems to achieve equitable economic advancement for all.
In recent years, the convergence of information technology (IT), robotics, and automation has led to the development of intelligent automation. This involves the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and automation technologies, resulting in more efficient and effective systems capable of performing complex tasks with minimal human intervention. The evolution of IT, automation, and AI is expected to continue, with new advancements likely to transform various industries and reshape how we live and work.
Fourth Economy partnered with Jobs for the Future to conduct a workforce analysis focused on the impacts of AI on the future of work across key industries.
Our Approach
Our analysis paired skilled-based data from O*NET with occupational data from the BLS. We identified 45 different abilities, skills, and activities across occupations that AI could impact, by enhancing, augmenting, complementing, displacing, or replacing those tasks.
The Results
AI’s impact on jobs will depend not only on the extent to which certain tasks can be automated but also on how AI might increase or decrease the overall need for those tasks. This report provides resources to help leaders, workers, and institutions prepare for these changes.
