Strategic Plan
412 Food Rescue
Economic Strategy
412 Food Rescue is a food rescue nonprofit founded on the principle that good food belongs to people, not landfills. The organization addresses food waste and food insecurity while contributing to environmental sustainability. With the innovative Food Rescue Hero platform, 412 Food Rescue has become the largest volunteer-based food rescue organization in the U.S., leveraging technology to optimize logistics and expand its impact across more than 22 North American regions.
Fourth Economy worked with 412 Food Rescue to update the organization’s mission, vision and values, and develop a strategic plan for 2025-2027.
Our Approach
The organization is at an important transition point, celebrating its 10-Year anniversary in 2025 and having recently hired a new CEO. The strategic planning process centered strong staff, Board and partner engagement and was guided by a staff and Board-led Strategic Planning Task Force.
The Results
The plan centers four key priorities: build financial sophistication and strength, ensure operational excellence, invest in our team and network and champion the food rescue movement. Fourth Economy also provided implementation support, which included measures of success, a timeline and tracking tool for staff to use to maintain accountability for progress toward strategic plan goals; fund prospecting; and support thinking through the business plan for the Food Rescue Hero platform.
